Configure IIS for Reporting Manager and reporting server site

Dear All:

My reporting manager and reporting server were working fine in IIS. But when I booted the system one day, one error message came "Unexpected error" for the IIS. So I removed the IIS and reinstalled he same.

But after that, I tried to give virtual directories to reporting manager and reporting server sites. But it ain't working. Could you please help me?

My IIS 5.1
Reporting service 2005 Express with SQL Server Express
ASP.NET 2.0 Express.

Please help.

Thanks in Advance

Emmanuel MathewDear All:

I got it somehow worked. But now the problem is that when I take the report manager and display the report, it shows me a wrongly formatted page with "Object reference not set to an isntance of an Object"

But in server, even though I am getting the unformatted (Like CSS is not applied), I get the report correctly. Is there anything wrong with the ath of CSS?

And what is this "Object reference error"? Could you please help me.

Thanks
Emmanuel Mathew|||Can you tell us the stack trace in report service log file? Also is there any error in the reporting services configuration tool (not sure if it comes with RS express)?|||Dear Friend:

There is no error screen to take a stack trace. Let me explain. When I give the URL, the reporting manager comes nicely. Then when I click on one of the report, usually, the parameter and the view report button should appear. It appears. But they are all mis aligned. And when Press on the view report, the image which shows the processing rotates and then shows the error in a single line "Object reference not set to an instance of an Object"

When I open the reporting server, I get the directory listing and then when I click on one of the report, the report comes mis aligned as in report manager. But when I click on the view report, it shows the report even though its looking ugly. I get the error only in reporting manager.

Let me tell you what had happened earlier too. One day when I opened the machine, my IIS got an unexpected error and it did not start. SO I reisntalled the same. After reinstalling, I saw that the reporting manager and the server virtual folders are gone. So I created the same and ran the command Reg IIS to register IIS for the ASP.NET 2. I have .NET, sql server and the reporting services which are all express editions installed in the machine. Everything was working fine till I find one day my IIS got corrupted.

Lot of thanks for the support. And thanks in Advance.

Configuration of Database Mail

Has anyone been able to configure Database Mail and successfully send an email message? I set it up this afternoon, but all my messages are sitting in the sys_mailitems table of the msdb database.

We use Novell GroupWise as our email client, but we have not installed GroupWise on this server. Can I configure the IIS SMTP server to send the email messages?

These are the steps I have taken thus far:

ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks SET ENABLE_BROKER;

GO

EXECUTE msdb.dbo.sysmail_start_sp;

GO

EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
@.profile_name = 'CLG_SQLMail',
@.recipients = 'username@.domain.com',
@.body = 'This is only a test. Had this been a real system problem you would already be pulling your hair out. ',
@.subject = 'SQL Server 2005 - Database Mail System Test'

GO

CREATE ENDPOINT SQLMail_Endpoint
STATE = STARTED
AS TCP ( LISTENER_PORT = 25 )
FOR SERVICE_BROKER (
AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE,
ENCRYPTION = REQUIRED
)

GO

Thanks in advance,
Ken

After a few weeks of frustrating trial and error, I was able to successfully configure Database Mail. Here are the steps I followed:

Prerequisites:
1) Make sure that IIS is installed
2) Make sure that the SMTP service has been installed. (This service runs within IIS.)
3) Create a valid email account for Database Mail to use

Configuration Steps:
1) Go to the Object Browser and expand the "Management" tree
2) Right-click on "Database Mail" and select "Configure Database Mail" to start the "Database Mail Configuration Wizard"
3) Navigate through the screens of the wizard, entering the appropriate information for your environment. In our case, I use an SMTP relay server as the server for the Database Mail Account.
4) When you are finished with the wizard, go to the Management Studio and connect to the instance.
5) Open a query window and connect to the master database
6) Run the following script:

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO
EXEC sp_configure 'Database Mail XPs', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO

7) Run the following script:

EXEC msdb..sysmail_start_sp;

8) Now go to the "SQL Server Configuration Manager"
9) Stop and restart both the SQL Server service and the SQL Server Agent service.

When I first tried to set up Database Mail, I did not restart these services. That was the reason my mail was stuck in the queue. The Books Online article on "sp_configure" needs to specify which of the options requires a restart of the services!

10) Go back to the Management Studio and create a test message using the sp_send_dbmail stored procedure.
11) The message should appear in your Inbox within a minute or two

NOTE: In our environment, we have an alternate email domain. I could only send messages using the primary domain, which I assume is due to the configuration of the SMTP relay server.|||One follow up in regard to restarting services. The following is the order in which you must execute the stored procedures and restart the services whenever you make a change to the Database Mail configuration:

1) Execute the following script in the query window:

EXECUTE msdb..sysmail_stop_sp;

GO

2) When the script completes, stop the following services, in the order listed below:
a. SQL Server Agent
b. SQL Server
c. SMTP Service

3) Restart the following services in the order listed below:
a. SMTP Service
b. SQL Server
c. SQL Server Agent

4) Execute the following script in the query window:

EXECUTE msdb..sysmail_start_sp;

GO

5) Send your test message again to confirm that everything is working correctly

|||Hi,

I have followed all these steps. I still can't send mail. The error message from the table: sysmail_log is:

Hi Ken,

I was having this same issue.

I resolved my issue by putting in the correct groupwise mail server name and pointing it to use port 25 (default). Be sure that you are using the right mail host server name in your account profile.

I did not have to jump through any extra hoops, it worked right after I made change.

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Conditionally execute a task

Hallo

Is there a way to conditionally execute a task?

I got a task “Mail Send“ and I would like to execute it, just if the variable X (my message source) has a value.

I try in expressions “Disable” = len(@.[Benutzer::Msg] ) > 5 ? false : true, but it does not work.

Link with an an arrow the task before send mail task double click the green line and (you have Precedence Constraint Editor window) choose at Evaluation Operation the value Expression and type

@.x is not null or other expression

so if the expression is true SSIS will go and run sendmail task

|||

Following ggciubuc post...

You can add an additional row to a scrit task in order to fail the package if the expression is the oposite of the first expression...

helped?

Conditional split error message

Getting the below error msg on my conditional split. I changed the error output to ignore errors and that keeps the error msg from appearing (and everything seems to work normally), but why would it evaluate to NULL?

Thanks

[Conditional Split - Find rows with balances [3412]] Error: The expression "FINDSTRING(Column0,"OPENING",1) > 0 || FINDSTRING(Column0,"CLOSING",1) > 0" on "output "Balance Rows" (3415)" evaluated to NULL, but the "component "Conditional Split - Find rows with balances" (3412)" requires a Boolean results. Modify the error row disposition on the output to treat this result as False (Ignore Failure) or to redirect this row to the error output (Redirect Row). The expression results must be Boolean for a Conditional Split. A NULL expression result is an error.

Can Column0 be NULL?|||

I honestly don't know how.

The data file has between 4 and 6 rows on any given day - 4 of those rows always have "CLOSING" or "OPENING" in them.

So the conditional split should ignore the other rows, right?

That's why I don't understand why it's finding a null?

|||Try this expression:

FINDSTRING((ISNULL(Column0) ? "" : Column0),"OPENING",1) > 0 || FINDSTRING((ISNULL(Column0) ? "" : Column0),"CLOSING",1) > 0|||The problem may be that when evaluating Column0, some of the columns are NULL, and hence when the conditional split tries to evaluate the statement I provided to you a few days ago, it may fail. Using the new statement I just posted, we "trap" the fact that if the column is NULL, we set its contents to "" and continue on with the FINDSTRING statement.|||

So it's throwing the "NULL" error if finds any null columns (regardless of whether the row has OPENING or CLOSING in it, because it has to evaluate ALL rows?)

Such as, for example:

1234, ,1234 intstead of 1234," ",1234 ?

Is the first case above considered a null?

(Although I looked through my file, and I do not see any null fields at all)

|||Well, yes, that'd be true. ALL rows pass through the conditional split. The output path that gets chosen depends on which condition evaluates to true.|||

So to answer the other question,

a blank between file delimiters is considered a null value to ssis?

Such as 1234, ,1234 ?

I want to clarify this because it's got me concerned, as this situation is also causing problems with another file where it can't convert a value "without loss of data", because a numeric field is blank.

I was told to convert the value to string first, then convert it back to a numeric. Is this considered a best practice for working with numeric values?

Thanks

|||

Yes, it will be trated as NULL if your Flat File Source is configured to parse it that way. There is the property on the source adapter to control that.

It is not best the practice to convert numeric data to strings and back, but you need to make sure your numeric data is really numeric. NULLs should be fine if you can handle them downstream. It looks like your conditional split was not prepared for them.

Thanks,

~Bob

functions recognized in expressions for fields and such are global VB
Functions. So I think that's why RowNumber doesn't work, but I could be
wrong.
Maybe you could try putting your subtotals in a different matrix with a
query that actually calculates the subtotals... and also with said query add
the row numbers (using identity or whatnot) and use those for your formatting
expression.

I'm not sure if this will work in your scenario, but in a standard
SSRS report you could use an expression like this in the Value
property of the table cell/etc:
=iif(Fields!Qty.Value = 0, Nothing, Fields!Qty.Value)
Hope this helps.

You are running either MSDE or Personal Edition. These has a performance throttling mechanism that you have
hit. Evaluate whether you want to install a "proper" SQL Server (Standard or Enterprise edition).

CDW, and am now seeing this error message very frequently in the Event Viewer
logs.

i am getting this message in the SQL server logs. But i dont know where to
make the changes to increase the limit...
"This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent queries. This limit has
been exceeded by 1 queries and performance may be adversely affected."
thanksYou are running either MSDE or Personal Edition. These has a performance thr
ottling mechanism that you have
hit. Evaluate whether you want to install a "proper" SQL Server (Standard or
Enterprise edition).

"SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine and SQL Server 2000
Personal Edition have a concurrent workload governor that
limits performance when more than eight operations are run

get more info, but as far as I understand this limit is
not configurable (unless you upgrade to another edition of

Concurrent queries exceeded

I am getting the following error message on a test SQL
Server:
'This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent
queries. This limit has been exceeded by 7 queries and
performance may be adversely affected.'
However, I can't seem to find any reference to this
anywhere let alone how to actually change the number of
concurrent queries!
Has anybody else had this problem or know's how to chnage
the setting?
Cheers
Lee.Looks like you are running MSDE. MSDE is optimized for 5 client and 3 server
process concurrent queries.
MSDE is free but is governed to limit performance.
If you need more concurrent connections and queries, you need to install a
full version of SQL Server.

Personal Edition and SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000). Information
about the governor is at this Web page:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/techinfo/workloadgov.asp
You cannot change the setting of the workload governor. If it is limiting
the performance of your instance of SQL Server, you would have to upgrade to
SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition to get a version of
SQL Server that does not have the governor. If the governor is not getting
invoked often, it may not have much of an effect on the performance of your
systsem.

Concurrent queries error

On my server running SQL Server 2000 (SP3). I frequently get this
informational message in the Event Viewer log.

17052 :
This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent queries. This limit has
been exceeded by 2 queries and performance may be adversely affected.

The application that I am running is a vendor application so I do not have
access to the code. I contacted the vendor, but they have never seen this
problem and cannot recreate it. I checked the Microsoft Knowledge Base for
help, but I came up empty. It seems like it should be a simple
configuration change.

Any advice?
Thanks,
JeffI found the answer many times by just searching this site. Should have
done that first.
