Configuration SQL Server 2005 Report Services

I have SQL Server 2005 and SQL Reporting Services installed on my server
with IIS.
I would like to obtain instructions to configure the SQL Reporting Services
on this server.
Thank You,Hi,
I suggest you start your reading with the page "Configuring Reporting
Services Components " in SQL Server 2005 Books Online. Several
relevant topics link from there.

Configuration problem (WMIProviderException)

I installed Reporting Services on stand-alone server from a SQL Server 2005
Standard CD. It supposed to connect to a remote SQL Server that would host
the ReportServer database.
I went through the steps of the Configure Report Server till I got to
"Database Setups". I created a new ReportServer database and when click on
"Apply", I get the following warning:
-- QUOTE --
Setting Connection Info for Report Server
Although saving tghe database succeeded, the report server cannot access
internal information about deployment to determine whether the current
configuration is valid for this edition. [...]
-- UNQUOTE --
When I click on the link to show me more information, I get the following
reported exception:
-- QUOTE --
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: The report server
cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the
database is required for all requests and processing.
(rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable)

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.ThrowOnError(ManagementBaseObject mo)
at
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.ListReportServersInDatabase(RSReportServerInfo[]& serverInfos)
-- UNQUOTE --
I'm not trying to set up a scale-out deployment. I want this single instance
of RS to connect to a remote database, and I verifiied that this is supported
by the Standard Edition of SQL Server 2005.
When I ignored this warning and moved the encryption keys stage of the
configuration, I found that only the Restore and Delete are enabled. If
clicked on "Delete", I get this error:
-- QUOTE --
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.WMIProviderException: The report server
cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the
database is required for all requests and processing.

ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.ThrowOnError(ManagementBaseObject mo)
at
ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.ListReportServersInDatabase(RSReportServerInfo[]& serverInfos)
-- UNQUOTE --
I verified that the Reporting Server was actually able to connect to the
database to create the Reporting Server database. But somehow it cannot
connect anymore.
Any ideas as to why?
ThanksI am experiencing the exact same problem. Did you get this resolved? Also, I
am curious as to whether you are running a side-by-side installation with SQL
2000 (as I am) or simply using SQL 2005?
Anyone know the solution to this? I've been working on this for several days
now, to no avail

Configuration Error - MS CRM

We have the MS CRM installed on the same machine as our Report Server.
Sometimes (infrequently) when accessing the report manager
(http://ComputerName/reports) we are presented with the following error
message. Any Ideas on how to solve it?
Server Error in '/Reports' Application
----
Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file
required to service this request. Please review the specific error details
below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
Parser Error Message: Assembly microsoft.crm.platform.types.dll security
permission grant set is incompatible between appdomains.
Source Error:

Line 6: <add assembly="Microsoft.Crm.Platform.ComProxy,

Line 7: <add assembly="Microsoft.Crm.Platform.Types, Version=1.2.3297.0,

Line 8: </assemblies>
Line 9: </compilation>Try to add this assembly to the rssrvpolicy.config just like the Share Point
assembly toward the end of the file. You may need to forward this to the
product support. It looks like a bug to me.

Hope this helps.

server which is running CRM & Reporting Services.
Teo, I tried looking into the rssrvpolicy.config file like you suggested,
and I see Sharepoint, but I'm not sure how I would add the CRM assembly.
There's a PublicKeyBlob field which I have no idea how I find that for CRM:
<CodeGroup
class="UnionCodeGroup"
version="1"
PermissionSetName="FullTrust"
Name="SharePoint_Server_Strong_Name"
Description="This code group grants
SharePoint Server code full trust. ">
<IMembershipCondition
class="StrongNameMembershipCondition"
version="1"
PublicKeyBlob="0024000004800000940000000602000000240000525341310004000001000100AFD4A0E7724151D5DD52CB23A30DED7C0091CC01CFE94B2BCD85B3F4EEE3C4D8F6417BFF763763A996D6B2DFC1E7C29BCFB8299779DF8785CDE2C168CEEE480E570725F2468E782A9C2401302CF6DC17E119118ED2011937BAE9698357AD21E8B6DFB40475D16E87EB03C744A5D32899A0DBC596A6B2CFA1E509BE5FBD09FACF"
/>
What changes would I make to the above XML Node to change it from Sharepoint
to CRM?

See if this works for you:
1. Open C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFIG\security.config.
2. Locate and copy the entire <CodeGroup> element for
microsoft.crm.platform.types.dll.
3. Now open C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Reporting
Services\ReportManager\rsmgrpolicy.config and add the <CodeGroup> element.
If you cannot find microsoft.crm.platform.types.dll in security.config, use
caspol to get its publickeyblog as follows:
CASPol -all -resolveperm microsoft.crm.platform.types.dll
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much!!!! It looks like that has solved the problem (after
wasting a support incident with Microsoft so they could tell me that
Reporting Services and Crystal Reports can't be installed on the same
machine, and to uninstall Reporting Services to fix the error--is there any
way to get a refund on a support incident?).
The .dll for CRM was not in the security.config file, so I had to find the
assembly--in case anyone else has a hard time finding it, it is in the
assembly cache on the machine (c:\%windows%\assembly). The physical location
on my machine was
C:\WINNT\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Crm.Platform.Types\1.2.3297.0__31bf3856ad364e35
I ran caspol on that assembly, copied the whole <codegroup> ... </codegroup>
element from the Sharepoint entry in the rsmgrpolicy.config and replaced the
publickeyblog value with the value returned by Caspol. This is the first
time since installing Reporting Services that I have been able to access both
CRM and the Report Manager at the same time, before either one or the other
would always give the error.
I am still getting another error, though, when I try to access certain pages
in Report Manager:
SQL Server Reporting Services
Error
The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship
with remote server.
I have seen other people say they get this error and it has something to do
with certificates. We are using a home-made certificate on that server since
it is only for internal use, so we install the certificate into the browser's
root certificates and we don't have any problems accessing the site
internally. How would I get around this in Report Manager?|||Joel,

Config SQL Server 2000 mail with Outlook 2002

We have a SQL Advance server 2000 running SQL Server 2000 SP3 and has
Outlook 2002 installed. The SQL Agent runs under the account
ghs2000\sqlexec.
I logged into this machine as ghs2000\sqlexec and setup a POP3 account
on the machine. Tested sending emails and test mails from SQL Server
and they work fine.
Now we log into the machine as a different user, it's normally logged in
as ghs2000\madmin. And we leave Outlook running. But the emails from
SQL Server never get sent out. They won't get sent out unless we log
into the server as ghs2000\sqlexec and open Outlook 2002.
Any way to set this up so the messages are sent out regardless of who is
logged in? Is this a limitation in Outlook 2002 or would the same thing
happen in Outlook 2002?

This may be happening!
From http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;pl;263556
WARNING: If you attempt to use SQL Mail to establish a connection to a
POP3/SMTP mail server you MUST be able to repeatedly connect and send mail
by using the following steps:
1.. Click the icon that starts the mail client.
2.. Send a message to the same e-mail address listed in the profile so
that you can test both the send and receive capability.
3.. Exit the mail client.
4.. Repeat steps 1 through 3 several times to simulate expected e-mail
traffic.
NOTE: If at any time during this process any dialog boxes appear that
require a response (such as clicking OK to log on) or you are prompted to
enter a password, it will not work with SQL Mail. For an Internet mail
connection to work with SQL Mail, you must have 100% connectivity or SQL
Mail is not usable and you might have to restart your server to clear up the
problem.
The reason for this is that SQL Mail does not provide for retries when
accessing a POP3 account. If SQL Mail cannot connect to the POP3 server on
the first attempt, the Internet Mail Connector normally opens a dialog box
that prompts you to click OK to retry. It that should occur, SQL Mail, which
is running as part of the MSSQLServer service, never sees the dialog box and
stops responding at this point. You might have to stop the Mapisp32.exe
application or even restart your Windows NT computer to clear the problem.
You may be better off using SMTP? http://www.sqldev.net/xp/xpsmtp.htm

painful to have it works. First thing it doesn't work well if I used
Terminal service, so I have to drive all the way at the midnight to the data
center where we keep our servers to logon physically. Then it never work as
expected. Why? Because emails stucked in the Out folder. I have to logon
as the domain acct that starts up SQL services then the mails are sent out.
I do every thing from MS KB. It works on this server but the others.
Finally it works on all servers but I will never know what made SQL mail
failed at the first time. I follow all steps, one by one, per MS KBs. If
it fails I will just start over, recreate the email profile, set up SQL mail
then it will work after second or third time.

SQL mail is supposed to work that way. It is the way SQL mails is working
on my SQL boxes now.

Confguring Report Builder

--Hello All ,
I am having a problem generating data models with SQL Reporting services
2005 from the web .I installed and configured 2005 Reporting services ,
created few reports and gave access to the users to view the reports from the
browser .Everything goes well till this point . But I don't see the "Generate
Model" button to generate a model from my current Data Source and use it in
the Report Builder feature from the web.I am trying to set this thing right
as it gives the end users to build their own reports from the web using
Report Builder.
Does it have to do with the security feature of Reporting Services ? If so
how can I configure the accounts ? [ I am using windows 2003 server with
IIS 6.0 and SQL Server 2005 CTP ]
Any help is highly appreciated .
thank you
K.This is controlled through the "Manage models" role, similar to all the
other RS security roles (e.g. "View reports", "Manage reports", etc.). Here
is a starting point for managing role level security in RS 2005:

Thank You for responding to my question . I gave the 'Content Manager' role
all the permissions inside Reporting server roles . From the browser , I
assigned the 'Content Manager' role to a group { local to the server where
IIS is installed}.Even then I am not able to view the 'Generate Models'
button besides 'Apply',Move & 'Delete' buttons . In addition to the above ,
when I run a report from report builder I get he following msg 'An attempt
has been made to use a data extension 'OLEDB-MD' that is not registered for
this report server'. How can I overcome this issue ?
Thanks for helping !!
